RUTH HUSSEY, PSA—D.P. PSWC---DPS—MASTER CIRCLE, IAPS
Ruth, a native Californian, is a lifelong resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and an artist since childhood. She was introduced to the pastel medium in the late 1960’s. For more than forty years she has concentrated on perfecting her skills with pastels, specializing in portraiture, figure and still life paintings.
She has earned signature status in the Society of Western Artists, Pastel Society of America, Degas Pastel Society and is a Distinguished Pastelist with the Pastel Society of the West Coast. Recently she earned a Master Circle Gold Medallion Award from the International Association of Pastel Societies.
Mostly self - taught, she has studied with a number of distinguished pastelists and studied at the San Francisco Academy of Art. Her work has won over 100 awards in numerous juried shows throughout the nation and is held in many private and some corporate collections. Her paintings have been accepted twice for exhibitions at the Butler Institute of American Art.
You will find her work featured in the North Light Book “A Painter’s Guide to Design and Composition and has had her work published in American Artist, Pastel Journal and International Artists magazines. Two of her pastels are featured in Best of America Pastel Volume 11 published in 2009
She has taught portraiture both privately and in Adult Education, gives lectures on pastel and has judged and been on juries for a number of pastel and mixed media shows. Recently she showed at the IAPS National Convention in Albuquerque in a special exhibition by Medallion Circle awardees.
After twelve years working in various volunteer positions, including President of the Oakland Museum of California Art Guild, Ruth is continuing as past Chairman on their fundraising Day Trip Committee.
